Consul General Highlights Program’s Importance

During the launch event, U.S. Consul General Scott Urbom emphasized the value of the program in creating opportunities for students. He explained how improved English proficiency can open doors to better educational and career prospects, helping students achieve brighter futures.

Cultural Exchange and Academic Support

In addition to language instruction, the program will offer participants exposure to American culture and values. CG Urbom expressed his appreciation for the teachers, coordinators, and staff at Evolution, the implementing partner, as well as academic institutions like Sindh Madressatul Islam University, the University of Sufism and Modern Sciences Bhitshah, and Sindh Agriculture University, Umerkot.

Program Details and Impact on Students

Sponsored by the U.S. Mission’s Regional English Language Office in Pakistan, the two-year initiative is geared towards academically gifted but financially disadvantaged students aged 13 to 20. The program includes afterschool and intensive English classes, providing students with insights into U.S. culture and democratic principles. This exposure enhances their ability to contribute to Pakistan’s socio-economic progress and increases their chances of participating in future U.S. academic and exchange opportunities.

Long-Term Educational Support in Pakistan

The English Access Scholarship Program is part of the U.S. government’s broader commitment to advancing educational opportunities in Pakistan and equipping young individuals with skills for success in today’s interconnected world. Since its establishment in 2004, the program has positively impacted approximately 8,000 students across Sindh and Balochistan, helping them gain a competitive edge in the global arena.
