Education Support for Children of Inmates

At a special event held at Karachi Central Prison, Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah and Prisons Minister Hasan Ali Zardari announced that the children of 4,684 convicted prisoners across Sindh will receive full educational support, from primary school to higher education.

A Collaborative Effort for Change

This initiative is the result of a joint effort between the education and prisons departments, in partnership with Paigham-e-Pakistan. The goal is to ensure that these children do not miss out on education due to their parents’ incarceration.

Commitment to Equal Opportunities

Minister Sardar Ali Shah stressed that children should not suffer because of their parents’ actions, emphasizing that the state has a duty to provide them with education. He noted that Sindh is leading the way by offering full academic support, covering both government and private institutions.

Implementation and Future Prospects

In the initial phase, admission letters have been issued to 100 children, while data for 2,638 more has been collected. The program also includes educational and vocational training for juvenile inmates, along with financial aid for families of convicted prisoners to protect them from economic hardships.

Transforming Prisons into Rehabilitation Centers

Prisons Minister Hasan Ali Zardari highlighted that this initiative is not just about educating children but also aims to rehabilitate entire families. He emphasized that by offering education and support, prisons will evolve into reform centers, fostering positive societal change.
