Punjab to Hand Over Low-Enrollment Public Schools to Private Sector
The Punjab government is set to launch the third phase of its school privatization initiative following Eid ul Fitr, focusing on public schools with 100 or fewer students. These schools will be transferred to private management as part of efforts to improve efficiency in the education sector. The Ministry of Education has directed District Education Officers and District Education Authorities across 43 districts to compile lists of schools that meet the privatization criteria. Officials have stated that shifting underutilized schools to private ownership will help reduce the financial strain on the government while ensuring better management. The initiative aims to streamline resources and improve the overall quality of education.
