Punjab May Start School Summer Holidays Earlier Due to Rising Temperatures
Punjab School Education Department is currently reviewing the possibility of starting summer vacations in schools in punjab earlier than scheduled due to escalating heat levels across the province. As reported by TV Channel, the department has formally sought a comprehensive weather analysis from the Meteorological Office to evaluate the situation before making a final call.
Khalid Nazir Wattoo, Secretary of School Education, stated that any change in the school calendar will be finalized only after Chief Minister examines the heatwave report submitted by the Met Office.
Education Authorities Monitor Heatwave for Possible Early Vacation Decision
Presently, summer holidays are planned to commence from June 1, 2025. However, in light of the unusually high temperatures, authorities are considering starting the break a week earlier to ensure the well-being of students and staff.
Wattoo highlighted that the initiative prioritizes the health and safety of students, teachers, and parents, as extreme weather conditions hinder effective academic functioning. He also pointed out the growing influence of climate change, which is now severely affecting various sectors, including education and health, in Pakistan and globally.
Given the increasing severity of heat each year, experts have raised concerns about its broader implications. In response, Punjab’s education officials are staying closely aligned with weather updates to take timely action in safeguarding school communities.
