Skills on Wheels and New Training Initiatives

To ensure youth in remote areas benefit from the program, the government will launch the “Skills on Wheel” initiative in collaboration with the private sector. Additionally, the Chief Minister has approved various new projects, including a ‘plug and play’ call center system. In the first phase, 5,000 young individuals will undergo specialized call center training. The six-week program is expected to help participants secure jobs with salaries reaching Rs 100,000 per month. The government is also considering the introduction of Skills Cards to certify trained individuals.

Empowering Women Through Vocational Training

Efforts to promote womens employment are also underway. Officials announced that 480 women will receive training at the Garment Training Institute in Quaid-i-Azam Business Park. These trainees will benefit from a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000 and pick-and- facilities. Upon completion of the program, they will be placed in leading textile companies to secure stable employment.

Expansion of IT and Skills Development Programs

Punjab Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Secretary Nadir Chattha revealed that all skills training institutions in the province have been consolidated under a single department for better management. Under the CM Skilled Punjab Initiative, 4,000 youth have already obtained international IT certifications, with plans to expand the program to 10,000 participants.

A six-month hospitality training program will also be launched in partnership with a British institution, ensuring job placements for graduates. Furthermore, 1,600 transgender individuals have been trained in textile work, makeup, and backstage production, receiving a monthly stipend of Rs 8,000. The “Tabeer” program is also actively helping skilled individuals find job opportunities abroad. Meanwhile, a rural women’s digital training program has received 27,000 applications. This initiative provides free desktop computers along with training in IT and English.

To streamline all skill development projects, the Punjab Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department will launch a centralized digital dashboard by mid-April.

Chief Minister’s Commitment to Youth Empowerment

Chief Minister reaffirmed her dedication to equipping young Pakistanis with the necessary skills to contribute to national development. She emphasized that skill-based training and employment opportunities are vital for integrating youth into the country’s economic growth. She assured full government support for training programs and job placements.

Reversal of Sightseeing Bus Fare Increase

In an unrelated decision, CM ordered an immediate rollback of the increased fares for Punjab’s double-decker sightseeing buses. The Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab TDCP had raised ticket prices from Rs 200 to Rs 500, while corporate and educational bookings saw an increase from Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the fare hike, the Chief Minister directed officials to restore the previous pricing structure, ensuring that the service remains accessible to the public and continues to promote tourism in Lahore.
