Flexible Utilization of Funds

The allocated grant can be utilized for various purposes, subject to approval by the School Management Council. Key areas of focus include upgrading science laboratories, painting and varnishing school buildings, and constructing new classrooms. The government has also relaxed rules under the PREPA guidelines to simplify the spending process and make it more efficient.

Enhanced Budget Compared to Previous Allocations

Previously, school councils were limited to spending Rs. 200,000, with school heads bearing heavy tax burdens to access the funds. This new grant marks a significant increase in funding and will be provided separately from the routine non-salary budget allocations, alleviating prior financial constraints.

Routine Budget Retained Alongside New Grant

The non-salary budget NSB will continue to be disbursed every three months to schools for operational expenses. The Rs. 2.5 million, however, is a one-time provision aimed at achieving noticeable improvements in school facilities and ensuring better learning environments for students.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to elevating the standards of education by addressing infrastructural challenges in government schools across Punjab.
