Punjab CM Introduces Merit-Based Scholarship Program for Students
On Monday, registration opened for the ‘Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarship’ program, a new initiative aimed at supporting students across the province. Under this program, scholarships will be awarded to 30,000 students annually, spanning 68 diverse fields of study. Beneficiaries of the Scholarship Program
The scholarships will provide financial aid to students from 50 public universities, 16 medical colleges, and 131 graduate colleges. Over the next four years, the program is expected to benefit 120,000 students, with a total budget allocation of 130 billion rupees.
Approval and Expansion of the Scholarship Program
Punjab Chief Minister approved the program in July and instructed an increase in the number of scholarships offered. The initiative is designed to extend substantial support to deserving students pursuing higher education.
Tuition Coverage for Public and Private University Students
During a special meeting with the Higher Education Department, the Chief Minister announced that the scholarships would cover 100% of tuition fees for students enrolled in BS degree programs at public universities, as well as eight selected private institutions.
Promoting Education in Remote Areas
CM Maryam emphasized the importance of collaborating with the private sector to enhance higher education opportunities. This effort aims to particularly benefit students from remote areas by giving them better access to educational resources and opportunities.
