Punjab Cancels Board Exams for Class 5 & 8
In a major shift aimed at reforming the academic evaluation process, the Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority PECTA has announced the cancellation of board examinations for grades 5 and 8 for the ongoing academic year. Instead, the authority will conduct student assessments, according to a report by tv news channel.
The announcement came following a high-level meeting presided over by PECTA CEO Dr. Shahenshah Faisal Azeem. Officials highlighted that the decision is intended to reduce the psychological pressure associated with traditional exams and to encourage a deeper, conceptual understanding of educational material.
This change aligns with contemporary educational practices that emphasize continuous assessment and learning over one-time, high-stakes testing.
