PU Faculty Members Fail to Return After Abroad Scholarships




Punjab University is grappling with a serious issue after 12 faculty members, who were awarded scholarships to pursue PhD degrees abroad, failed to return and resume their positions. These fully-funded scholarships were intended to strengthen academic excellence and research output. A total of 56 faculty members were sent under the program with a binding commitment to serve the university for at least five years upon completion. Despite this agreement, 12 recipients either completed or partially completed their studies and then disappeared without fulfilling their contractual obligations. The resulting financial loss to the university amounts to several hundred million rupees, leading to immediate administrative action.

Faculty Members Vanish After Availing Government-Funded Scholarships

In response, Punjab University has approached the Federal Investigation Agency FIA to assist in locating the defaulting individuals and initiating the recovery of the misused funds. Additionally, requests have been made to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Interior to block the passports of those involved, preventing further evasion.

The following individuals have been identified in the case:

  • Farah Sattar GIS Center – Rs. 7 million
  • Syed Mohsin Ali GIS Center – Rs. 14 million
  • Kiran Ayesha Institute of Administrative Sciences – Rs. 10 million
  • Rabia Ibad MMG Department – Rs. 9 million
  • Khawaja Khurram Khurshid IQTM – Rs. 84 million
  • Shamaila Ishaq Hailey College of Commerce – Rs. 16.1 million
  • Usman Rahim Center for Coal Technology – Rs. 72 million
  • Salman Aziz College of Engineering – Rs. 9 million
  • Muhammad Nawaz GIS – Rs. 72 million
  • Javeria Iqbal PUCIT – Rs. 6 million
  • Seemab Ara Administrative Sciences – Rs. 10 million
  • Samia Mahmood – Rs. 11.6 million

All of the above-named faculty members have been officially dismissed from their roles. The incident has placed Punjab University under scrutiny, with mounting pressure to reinforce its scholarship tracking mechanisms and introduce stricter accountability to deter future violations.
