PMDC Sets New Fee Cap for Private Medical and Dental Colleges
Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC has officially capped the annual tuition fee for MBBS and BDS programs in private institutions at Rs. 1.8 million. A permissible 5% increase has been granted for the 2025 academic session, with future adjustments linked to the national inflation rate starting in 2026. This fee regulation follows proposals submitted by the Committee on Medical Education Reforms, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister, and established under the direction of Prime Minister.
Private colleges that have already collected amounts exceeding the approved fee are required to either reimburse the surplus or adjust it in upcoming academic cycles. Institutions requesting a fee beyond the Rs. 1.8 million limit—up to a maximum of Rs. 2.5 million—must provide comprehensive financial documentation to seek special approval from PMDC.
The council has issued a warning that non-compliance will result in legal action. Complaints regarding violations can be submitted directly through the PMDC’s official portal.
Meanwhile, Dr. Riaz Janjua, Secretary General of the Pakistan Association of Private Medical and Dental Institutions PAMI, expressed concern over the decision. He argued that the policy threatens the financial sustainability of several colleges, especially those located in high-cost urban centers. Dr. Janjua also advocated for PAMIs involvement in the fee review committee—a proposal that was reportedly agreed upon during discussions.
