Nankana Sahib Announces Five-Day School Closure for Baisakhi Festival
The electronic media reports that the district administration of Nankana Sahib has declared a five-day school holiday in celebration of the Baisakhi festival. From April 12 to April 16, all schools in the districtall schools in the district will be closed. This decision coincides with the arrival of thousands of Sikh pilgrims from India to participate in the Baisakhi festivities. The closure of schools is intended to facilitate the smooth running of the event and to improve security measures during the celebrations. A formal notification has confirmed that the holiday will be observed throughout the district. The main Baisakhi celebrations are set to take place on April 14, and preparations are already underway.
In response to the large number of visitors, more than 2,000 police officers will be stationed across the district, according to the security plan developed by the District Police Officer DPO. Although the annual religious tourism agreement between Pakistan and India allows for a quota of 3,000 Sikh pilgrims, this years demand has surpassed 7,000, leading to requests for additional visas through the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi.
To help manage the high volume of visitors and ease traffic congestion, the temporary school closure will also contribute to better coordination of the event.
