Illegal Admissions Given to Students in Medical and Dental Colleges 2024
An alarming issue has surfaced, revealing that 15 medical and dental colleges across Pakistan have been involved in granting illegal admissions to students. Reports from the Federal Ministry of Health indicate that these colleges currently have over 1200 students enrolled.
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC had previously prohibited these institutions from admitting students last year, yet the colleges defied these orders. The Pakistan Medical Commission PMC of the past had illicitly granted partial approvals to these colleges, leading to the collection of more than PKR 1 billion in fees and other charges.
These educational institutions are spread across various cities, including Karachi, Sanghar, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. The PMDCs president has confirmed that the Federal Investigation Agency FIA is conducting inquiries into 18 medical and dental colleges for these unauthorized admissions, which were partially sanctioned by the former PMC.
This disclosure casts a shadow on the credibility of the medical education system and the regulatory authorities charged with maintaining educational standards in Pakistans health sector. The outcomes of the FIAs investigations are awaited to determine the full scope of these admissions and the implications for the students futures.
