HED to Give More Internships to Students in KP
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department is working on a strategy to offer more internship opportunities to students across various industries in the province. The students can get the latest updates of KP Higher Education Department Plans to Expand Student Internship Programs.
Efforts to Increase Internship Placements
A meeting was held on Thursday, led by Higher Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi, to discuss expanding internship programs for BS students in government colleges and recent graduates. Senior officials, including the Special Secretary for Higher Education, Additional Secretaries, and representatives from the Youth Affairs Department, participated in the discussion.
Collaboration with Industries and Institutions
Officials confirmed that discussions have already taken place with industrialists, government organizations, and NGOs in Peshawar, Mardan, and Hazara, receiving encouraging responses. Similar initiatives are being extended to other districts to broaden internship opportunities for students.
Internship Mandate and Future Plans
Minister Afridi emphasized the importance of making internships mandatory under Higher Education Commission HEC guidelines. He directed the HED to formalize an agreement with the Youth Affairs Department to ensure internship availability for students from both settled and merged districts.
Focus on AI and Emerging Technologies
Additionally, Minister Afridi stressed the need to introduce internship programs in Artificial Intelligence and other advanced technologies. He instructed the department to collaborate with the University of Engineering and Technology UET to design specialized programs in these fields, aiming to equip students with valuable industry skills.
