HEC to Build Two Universities in Islamabad’s New Sector

Capital Development Authority CDA has decided to provide land to the Higher Education Commission HEC for constructing two new universities in Islamabad’s Sector I-17. This initiative aims to enhance higher education facilities in the capital. The students can get the latest updates of HEC to Establish Two Universities in Islamabad’s I-17 Sector.

Back in 2007, CDA had assigned 250 acres of land to HEC in the Kuri area for university construction. However, due to complications arising from local possession disputes, HEC was unable to acquire the land. Consequently, the project remained unimplemented.

In collaboration with the Defense Housing Authority DHA, CDA recently launched the Margalla Enclave Housing Project in Sector I-17. As part of this project, the CDA Board decided to relocate all government educational institutions that were originally allotted land in Kuri to Sector I-17. A CDA representative confirmed that the designated university plots have now been reassigned to this institutional sector following approvals from both the CDA Board and the federal government.

HEC initially acquired 250 acres from CDA in 2007 to establish the University of Engineering, Sciences, and Technology, with 35 acres designated for the National University of Law. However, possession issues prevented these plans from materializing. HEC is now pursuing either access to the original land or an alternative allocation. An official from HEC stated that discussions with CDA would soon take place to resolve the matter.

CDA has assured that HEC will receive land in Sector I-17, similar to other government institutions like the Federal Investigation Agency. Meanwhile, HEC officials highlighted that the commission also owns several valuable plots in key commercial areas such as G-11 and I-8, which remain unused. They stressed the importance of securing these properties and expediting construction to prevent encroachments. CDA initially acquired 3,200 acres in the Kuri, Mojohan, and Rehala areas in the 1970s but struggled to secure full possession. Recently, through a partnership with DHA, they successfully acquired 10,000 Kanal for the Margalla Enclave project, with CDA receiving 55% of the developed plots and DHA overseeing the construction.
