HEC Revised Curriculum for Physical Education Degrees
Higher Education Commission HEC of Pakistan has conducted a comprehensive review and update of the curriculum for BS and MS degree programs in Physical Education. This update aligns the curriculum with emerging trends, global standards, and the evolving needs of the sector. The last significant development of the curriculum was in 2014, making this revision an important step forward. National Curriculum Review Committees Role
A two-day meeting of the National Curriculum Review Committee NCRC was held to discuss the updates. The meeting brought together representatives from 18 institutions across Pakistan, all offering BS and MS programs in Physical Education. This collective effort highlights a shared commitment to improving the academic and professional quality of these programs at the University of Punjab and beyond.
Focus on Modernization and Global Alignment
The primary objective of the meeting was to modernize the curriculum to keep pace with new trends in Physical Education and ensure alignment with global educational standards. Additionally, the committee aimed to address the growing and evolving demands in the field of Physical Education within Pakistan.
Leadership and Key Contributions
Professor Dr. Zafar Iqbal Butt, Chair of the Department of Sports Sciences at the University of Punjab Lahore, was unanimously elected as the convener of the meeting. His expertise and leadership were crucial in shaping and refining the updated curriculum framework.
HECs Vision for Innovation in Physical Education
Dr. Amjad Hussain, Director General Academics at HEC, emphasized the importance of creating a forward-thinking and innovative curriculum that promotes excellence in both education and research in Physical Education. He acknowledged and thanked the contributors for their significant input in the successful review and update of the curriculum.
