Higher Education Commission HEC of Pakistan has joined hands with the University of Utah to bolster capacity-building efforts within Pakistan’s public universities. Supported by the United States Agency for International Development USAID through the Higher Education System Strengthening Activity HESSA, the initiative will focus on enhancing faculty development, strategic planning, policy reform, and governance, as stated in an HEC press release. Ceremony Marks Formal Launch of the Partnership

The official signing ceremony was attended by HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, USAID Deputy Mission Director Andrew McKim, along with senior representatives from HEC, the University of Utah, and USAID. The agreement was signed by HEC’s Adviser for Global Engagement, Awais Ahmed, and Dr. Michael Barber, a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Utah.

Expansion of HESSA’s Reach in Pakistani Universities

This new collaboration extends the HESSA initiative to an additional 16 Pakistani universities, building on the project’s success in supporting 16 universities already. The initiative seeks to raise the standards of education by targeting critical areas within university administration and curriculum development.

Remarks from Key Stakeholders on the Partnership’s Impact

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed highlighted the significance of such international collaborations, noting that “this partnership with the University of Utah will empower educators and leaders to advance education quality across Pakistan.” He acknowledged USAID’s role in promoting this mission and referred to Pakistan’s youth as a “goldmine” deserving of substantial development support.
