Govt Set Fee Limit for Private Medical & Dental College
The Pakistani government has decided to regulate tuition fees for private medical and dental colleges to curb rising education costs, according to sources. Addressing High Tuition Fees
Reports indicate that some private institutions charge as much as Rs. 3.5 million annually, making medical education unaffordable for many students. To tackle this issue, the government is finalizing a new fee ceiling, which will be lower than current charges.
Ensuring Affordable Medical Education
Officials emphasized that the decision aims to prevent arbitrary fee hikes and ensure that quality medical education remains within reach. Consultations on the proposed fee cap have concluded, and an official announcement is expected soon.
Previous Restrictions by PMDC
Earlier this year, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC had already imposed restrictions on fee collection by private medical and dental colleges. Institutions were instructed not to demand fees following recommendations from the Senate’s Health Sub-Committee.
Government-Led Review of Fee Structure
A temporary ban on fee collection was enforced until the Medical Education Committee, headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, submitted its recommendations. This committee, established under the Prime Minister’s directive, was tasked with formulating a fair and balanced fee structure.
