Govt Ban on New Medical and Dental College Registrations
The government has officially decided to ban the registration of any new medical and dental colleges across the country. As per reports, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC will no longer process applications for the establishment of new institutions in this sector. Approval of the Ban and Application Cutoff Date
According to sources, the PMDC Council has formally approved the ban, putting an end to new registrations. Under this policy, applications submitted after January 5 will not be entertained. However, 13 medical colleges that applied before this deadline will still have their submissions reviewed.
Faculty Shortages Lead to New Restrictions
One of the key reasons behind this decision is the shortage of qualified faculty in existing medical and dental institutions. Authorities believe that restricting new registrations will help maintain the quality of medical education and ensure that current institutions can address faculty-related challenges.
Current Number of Medical and Dental Colleges
According to official data, Pakistan currently has 121 private and 66 public medical and dental colleges. With a significant number of institutions already operational, the decision aims to enhance education standards rather than expand without sufficient resources.
