Despite Govt Orders IBA Increases Tuition Fee

The Institute of Business Administration Karachi increased the tuition fee of their existing students for the academic session 2020-21. IBA has increased the tuition fee up to 10% in the wake of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country and Sindh Government has already issued orders regarding not increase the tuition fee but the universities in the government and private sectors are binding to reduce the fee by 20% to give relief to the students, who are suffered with their education due to this pandemic. Due to this move of increase in tuition fee, IBA will collect about Rs.164 million annually and Rs.100 million of which will be increased during the admissions being granted to the students in the fall semester. The Executive Director of IBA approved the decision on 25 July, when the Board of Governors of the institute held the meeting. The Accounts and Finance department of IBA forwarded the summary to increase in fee on 12 June and the board members were apprised with fee structures of KSBL, LUMS and Habib University during the meeting. It was told to BoG that there were some universities in Sindh, which have increased the fee recently flouting the ordinance, which was enacted by the Sindh government to grant discount to the students in their fee. The BoG stated the reasons and justified the increase in fee and the tuition fee of IBA is still half of their fee at LUMS and 1/3 of the Habib University after increase in the tuition fee recently. IBA students rejected the recent increase in fee and they termed it the unjust increase because of the economic situation in the country.
