Cambridge Special Retake Exams for Pakistani Students

Cambridge Special Retake Exams for Pakistani Students

In an effort to address the disruptions that transpired on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of May 2023, Cambridge Assessment International Education CAIE has announced the organization of supplementary examinations scheduled for October. This decision, disclosed by the authorities on Friday, aims to assuage the concerns expressed by students and parents regarding the unexpected outcomes in the A and AS-level exams of the year 2023. The students can get the detailed information regarding Cambridge’s Special Arrangements for Affected Pak Students.

Collaborative Measures Taken in Response to Recent Events

A significant meeting was convened at the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training MoFEPT, where pivotal stakeholders, including Uzma Yousaf, the Country Director of CAIE, Maria Rehman, the Director of the British Council, and other leaders in education, participated actively. The primary focus of this gathering was to formulate a comprehensive strategy to rectify the discrepancies observed in the recent examination results.

Financial and Administrative Facilitation for Affected Students

Cambridge has decided to waive the fees associated with the retake exams, and the British Council will offer logistical support at a reduced expense. To address any notable inconsistencies between school-assessed grades, Cambridges assessment scores will undergo a meticulous re-evaluation and re-assessment on an individual basis.

Sharing the Financial Responsibility for Remedial Measures

In the process of requesting re-evaluation and reassessment, educational institutions will contribute 80 percent of the associated costs, while the remaining 20 percent will be borne by the parents. Should these evaluations lead to changes in the awarded grades, a full refund of the expenses will be made. Furthermore, the Ministry is actively engaging with prominent Vice Chancellors of universities to ensure greater flexibility in the admissions process. Simultaneously, collaborations with regional governments are being established to implement similar strategies.

Establishment of a Mechanism for Grievance Resolution

In response to the developments that unfolded after Pakistani students received their Cambridge International Examinations CIE AS and A-Level results, a mechanism for addressing complaints will be set up under the aegis of the Private Institution Education Regulatory Authority PIERA, functioning within the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training. This framework will oversee the management of unresolved grievances.

Background and the Path Forward

The genesis of this situation lies in the cancellation of exams on the 9th and 12th of May due to heightened political tensions. This, in turn, led to unforeseen grading outcomes. Students and their parents vocalized their demand for the rescheduling of the cancelled exams to rectify the situation. Responding to these concerns, Cambridge International conveyed its commitment to gradually restoring the pre-pandemic standards of 2019.
