AS Level Mathematics Exam Cancelled by Cambridge Over Paper Leak
Cambridge Assessment International Education CAIE, a provider of international Cambridge qualifications, offers exams and qualifications to over 10,000 schools in more than 160 countries. It operates as a non-profit and non-teaching department of the University of Cambridge. Recently, CIE announced the cancellation of an AS Level exam paper that was leaked online well before the scheduled exam date.

Approximately three months ago, CIE began receiving allegations of a potential leak of the AS Level Mathematics exam scheduled for 2nd May. After a thorough investigation, CIE confirmed that the exam paper had indeed been leaked on social media prior to the test. Consequently, CIE decided to cancel the exam, much to the disappointment of many students who had prepared diligently.
Assessed Marks and Retake Options
In response to the situation, CIE has communicated with schools, stating that students will receive "assessed marks" for the AS Level Mathematics paper. This means that students marks will be based on their performance in other mathematics exams. Students who are not satisfied with this decision have the option to retake the exam in November 2024.
Ensuring Fairness and Integrity
CIE emphasized that their priority is to ensure fairness for the majority of students who did not cheat. They aim to prevent any unfair advantage gained through cheating and ensure all students are evaluated equally for university admissions. This incident underscores the importance of maintaining the integrity and credibility of the examination process, ensuring that all students have an equal opportunity to succeed based on their merits.

CIE is committed to improving exam security in Pakistan and worldwide. They expressed gratitude for the patience and support from students and schools as they work to address the issue. CIE also noted that such incidents are extremely rare and that they have refined security measures, including time-zone variant papers, to prevent leaks from occurring in the future.
