During the launch event, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission HEC, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, highlighted the government’s commitment to improving educational opportunities for women. He emphasized that women’s education is essential for societal growth and development, noting that 52% of university students in Pakistan are female. The HEC continues its mission to further raise this number by providing support and programs that prioritize womens education.

Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Vice Chancellor of AIOU, stressed the pivotal role of education in achieving national development and prosperity. He encouraged students to dedicate themselves to their studies, as education is the foundation for a bright future. Dr. Nasir expressed his gratitude to the US Embassy and AIOU’s English Department for their efforts in promoting English language education for Pakistani students, which opens doors to global opportunities in higher education and careers.

Scholarship Program Details and Benefits

The US Embassy’s Regional English Language Officer, Gerald Frank, shared that Pakistan is the leading nation among 80 countries participating in this scholarship program, with over 27,000 students benefiting so far. Through AIOUs efforts, an additional 250 students from districts including Mianwali, Bhakkar, and Attock have been enrolled. The program not only enhances English proficiency but also fosters critical thinking, digital literacy, and a deeper understanding of international cultures, providing students with essential tools for success in a globalized world.

Importance of English as a Global Language

Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at AIOU, reiterated the significance of English as a global language. He encouraged students to focus on learning English to enhance their ability to communicate effectively on an international level. Mastering the language, he said, would open up opportunities in higher education and careers worldwide, allowing students to excel in reading, writing, and speaking.
