2 More Universities Added to Free Laptop Program
A significant decision was made in a recent session of the National Assembly’s special committee on womens inclusion in the mainstream, chaired by Nafisa Shah. The committee approved a new initiative to distribute laptops to students enrolled in Allama Iqbal Open University AIOU and Virtual University VU to enhance their access to digital education.
During the meeting, Higher Education Commission HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed presented key insights into gender representation in higher education. He revealed that when HEC was formed in 2002, only 37% of university students were female, whereas today, this figure has increased to 48%, reflecting major progress in womens empowerment in education.
Another focal point of discussion was harassment prevention in universities. Dr. Ahmed emphasized that strict anti-harassment policies are being enforced across institutions. Referring to the Islamia University Bahawalpur IUB controversy, he assured that the situation had been thoroughly investigated, with multiple dismissals and legal actions already in effect.
Furthermore, Federal Ministry of Education Secretary Mohiuddin Wani shared an innovative development: the launch of an AI-driven examination paper generation system in Islamabad, which aims to make the education sector more transparent and efficient.
This meeting highlights Pakistans commitment to digital education, gender inclusivity, and student protection policies, paving the way for a more equitable and technology-driven academic future.
