University of Health Sciences UHS is Changing MBBS Curriculum

The University of Health Sciences UHS is making significant strides in medical education by revamping the MBBS curriculum for third- and fourth-year students. This initiative aims to foster a more modular and practical approach to learning, enhancing the overall educational experience for future healthcare professionals.

In a recent meeting chaired by UHS Vice-Chancellor Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore, leading experts in medical education convened to discuss the implementation of these vital changes. UHS had previously introduced a modular system for first- and second-year MBBS students, and this extension to later years underscores the universitys commitment to innovative education.

“We are transitioning to a modular curriculum for the third and fourth years to ensure more integrated learning for students,” stated Prof. Rathore. This shift is designed to facilitate a deeper understanding of medical concepts by linking various subjects through practical applications.

One of the most significant changes involves an increase in clinical training hours. Beginning in the third year, students will now engage in a minimum of 12 to 14 hours of clinical exposure per week. This enhancement aims to equip students with hands-on experience and strengthen their clinical skills.

While the traditional MCQ system will still be used for assessments, the university is shifting its focus toward practical experience and clinical skills development. This new emphasis will better prepare students for real-world medical scenarios.

Additionally, the updated curriculum will incorporate courses on family health and community medicine, placing a stronger emphasis on primary healthcare. This holistic approach aims to produce well-rounded medical professionals who are equipped to address the diverse needs of the communities they serve.

Through these changes, UHS is not only advancing medical education but also ensuring that its graduates are ready to meet the challenges of modern healthcare.
