Sindh Assembly Grants Grace Marks to Karachi Inter Students
The Sindh Assembly’s parliamentary committee has decided to award grace marks to first-year intermediate students in Karachi who did not pass their annual exams, as reported by news channel on Tuesday. This decision was made following an inquiry conducted by a fact-finding committee, led by Dr. Sarosh Lodi, which raised serious concerns about the examination process and the administrative practices of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi BIEK. Committee Report Unveils Exam Irregularities
During a meeting addressing the issue, Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah revealed that the investigation report on BIEK first-year exam results highlighted flaws in the board’s administration and evaluation process. The findings pointed to procedural errors and inconsistencies that may have led to unfair grading, raising concerns about the transparency of the system.
Grace Marks to Compensate for Unfair Assessment
In response to the report, Minister Sardar Ali Shah announced that grace marks would be given to students who failed, citing clear evidence of discrepancies in the examination process. He noted that many students who had performed well in their matriculation exams experienced an unexpected in their first-year results, indicating possible errors in assessment.
Percentage of Grace Marks in Science Subjects
As part of this decision, students will be awarded 15% additional marks in Physics and Mathematics, while those appearing in Chemistry will receive a 20% increase. This step is intended to correct the academic disadvantages faced by students due to errors in the examination process, ensuring a fairer evaluation system.
Education Reforms and Accountability Measures
Along with the grace marks, the Sindh Education Minister assured that significant reforms would be introduced in the examination system. He emphasized that the board’s structure and exam format would be revised to prevent such issues in the future. Furthermore, those responsible for the irregularities and mismanagement within BIEK will be held accountable, ensuring a more transparent and just education system.
