University of Health Sciences UHS has received approval from the Academic Council and Boards of Studies to implement substantial changes in the existing practical examination system within medical colleges. Comprehensive Decision during Joint Meeting
- A joint meeting of the Academic Council and Boards, led by VC Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore, concluded with a decision to conduct Oral/Practical/Clinical examinations using innovative formats.
- The formats include Objective Structured Practical Examination OSPE, Objective Structured Clinical Examination OSCE, and the newly introduced Objective Structured Viva Examination OSVE.
Focus on Concept Understanding and Professional Expression
- OSVE is endorsed as a reliable method to assess students, emphasizing their grasp of concepts and professional expression.
- The test format is designed around a circuit of ‘stations,’ where specific learning objectives are evaluated at each station.
Unveiling OSVE for the First Time in Pakistan
- While OSPE and OSCE have been utilized previously, OSVE is set to make its debut in Pakistan and has proven effective in assessment processes in various countries.
- Starting this year, first professional MBBS candidates will undergo assessment through 12 observed stations in the practical exam for each subject under the new modular curriculum of the university.
Composition of 12 Stations with External Examiner Supervision
- The 12 stations will include seven for OSPE, three for OSCE, and two for OSVE.
External examiners will supervise each station, ensuring an unbiased evaluation, with students regular teachers refraining from serving as internal examiners.
