Punjab Extends BDS Program to Five Years
The duration of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery BDS program in Punjab has been officially increased to five years. This pivotal decision was made by the University of Health Sciences UHS Lahore during its 49th Board of Studies meeting on dentistry.
Both public and private dental colleges have pledged to waive tuition fees for students during their fifth year of study. This measure ensures financial relief for aspiring dentists as they adapt to the extended curriculum.
UHS has approved a completely revised syllabus for dental colleges, scheduled to take effect from the academic year 2024-25. The new curriculum emphasizes advanced clinical dentistry and community-focused healthcare, addressing the evolving needs of dental education.
According to UHS uhs five year bds program the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore, specialized training sessions for faculty members and subject experts across dental colleges will be introduced. These initiatives aim to streamline the transition to the updated course structure while integrating life-saving techniques into the program.
