Grace Marks Recommended for 1st Year Students Who Failed BIEK Exams
A fact-finding committee formed by the Sindh Assembly has suggested awarding grace marks to first-year students who failed their Board of Intermediate Education Karachi BIEK exams. Additionally, the committee has called for a reassessment of results from other education boards across Sindh. The final decision will be taken by the relevant assembly committee, which could impact students appearing for the annual exams starting on April 15. Investigation into Low Pass Rate
The committee, headed by NED University Vice Chancellor Dr. Sarosh Lodhi, conducted an inquiry into the unusually low pass rate, which ped below 30%. During the investigation, the answer sheets of failing students, including those who had previously scored high grades in Matriculation, were carefully reviewed.
Findings of the Probe
The investigation revealed basic errors in students exam copies, such as spelling mistakes. Additionally, discrepancies were found in mark totaling, tabulation, and data entry, which may have contributed to the high failure rate.
Subjects Eligible for Grace Marks
The committee recommended grace marks for Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry, recognizing the difficulty of these subjects. However, it did not propose grace marks for Zoology, Botany, Islamic Studies, or Pakistan Studies.
